THE Players Championship returns next week with the top 16 players on the one-year rankings list set to feature.

However, ‘The Magician’ will not compete at this year’s Players Championship following his round one exit to Barry Pinches at the Welsh Open.

Murphy’s surprise defeat in Llandudno meant he could not possibly collect enough ranking points to get into the top 16 on the one-year list.

The Players Championship is the second of three events in the Players Series.

Ronnie O’Sullivan beat Judd Trump to win the World Grand Prix in January, the first tournament of the series.

The third and final event is the Tour Championship, which takes place in Manchester in April.

When is Players Championship 2024?

Is Ronnie O’Sullivan playing at Players Championship 2024?

Ronnie O’Sullivan has not yet confirmed if he will compete at the 2024 Players Championship.

It comes after The Rocket pulled out of the Welsh Open due to “stage fright” on February 10, just days before he was scheduled to face Liam Graham in a pre-qualifying match.

O’Sullivan revealed after his opening win at the World Grand Prix last month that he was expecting to feature at the Players Championship this year.

The snooker great told ITV on January 16: “I’m going to miss quite a few tournaments after this.

“I know I’ve won tournaments, but I’m not really happy with my game.

“I shouldn’t really have come here. In hindsight, I should have just bowed on this one as well.

“But I’m here now, so I’m going to give it my best shot. I’m going to try to qualify for the China event because I like the China events.

“That will be pretty much be me done. I’ll show up for the Players as well because that is quite a decent tournament.”

O’Sullivan is currently second behind Judd Trump on the one-year rankings list, meaning he would qualify for the Players Championship in Telford.
