Who is Malik Scott?

Malik Scott was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvannia, in 1980.

He started boxing aged eleven and won the Junior Olympics in 1997 before winning the US National Championships two years later.

He enjoyed an impressive professional career, retiring with a record of 38 wins, three losses and one draw.

Scott’s defeats came against three big names in the boxing world – Britain‘s Derek Chisora, Cuba‘s Luis Ortiz and fellow American Deontay Wilder, who he would go on to train.

His final bout on November 12, 2016, against Ortiz was described by commentator Adam Smith as “the worst I have seen in many years”, with Scott losing by unanimous decision.

However, in 2022 Scott laced up again to fight Russian MMA star Sergei Kharitonov in an exhibition bout.

He was beaten by unanimous decision in their six-round bout in Belarus, despite Wilder claiming his coach had won.

When did Malik Scott start dating Kate Abdo?

The boxing trainer is dating TV host Kate Abdo.

The British CBS Sports star made things “Instagram official” after she posted a pic of Scott kissing her on the cheek in April 2023.

Jamie Carragher, Micah Richards and Thierry Henry, who co-present with Abdo on their CBS Champions League analysis show, have both hinted at the pair being a couple during their banter-filled on-air chats.

What did Malik Scott say about Jamie Carragher?

Jamie Carragher previously joked that he questioned Kate’s loyalty to Malik.

Malik admitted that he didn’t lose “any sleep” over the joke but was upset that Abdo was “irritated” after Carragher playfully suggested that Abdo was not loyal to her fiancé.

He told the website Lord Ping: “It’s not the first time he’s said something out the way like that, but it’s the first time he said something in reference to possibly disturbing a household or disturbing a couples chemistry.”

Who has Malik Scott trained?

Despite being knocked out by him in 90 seconds, Scott became Deontay Wilder’s trainer in 2021.

Their first fight was Wilder’s eleventh-round knockout defeat in his final trilogy bout with Tyson Fury.

Oleksandr Usyk will face Tyson Fury on May 18, 2024, in Saudi Arabia

Scott had sparred with Fury previously and picked up a burst eardrum in doing so.

But he was full of praise for the Gypsy King following Wilder’s defeat.

In December 2023, Scott told FightHype that he had four potential opponents for Wilder.

He said: “We got Andy Ruiz Jr who’s still looking for some action, Usyk and Fury, Daniel Dubois is there right now in a very good position. There are a few guys out there right now.”

In July 2022, he confirmed on Instagram that he was training Oleksandr Usyk, who he has also sparred with, ahead of his rematch with Anthony Joshua.

He wrote: “PSA: I’m here in Dubai, UAE, training camp working with Heavyweight champions Alexander Usyk, Gerald Washington and other future champions.”

Uysk defeated AJ for a second time on August 20, 2022, in a split decision.

In 2023, Uysk knocked out Daniel Dubois.

When is Usyk fighting next?

The Ukrainian champion is set to square off against Tyson Fury on May 18, 2024, in one of the most anticipated heavyweight clashes in recent history.

Usyk hopes to become the first undisputed heavyweight champion since British compatriot Lennox Lewis over two decades ago.

The fight will take place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, the same place where Anthony Joshua viciously knocked out Francis Ngannou.

Usyk who was also the former cruiserweight undisputed champion secured the heavyweight titles when he dominated the ring against Joshua in 2021.

Since then the Ukranian champion has been on a winning streak, defending his belts twice including in a rematch with the Brit.

Usyk was supposed to face the Gypsy King earlier on February 17, 2024, however, the fight was postponed because of a facial injury Fury sustained in training.

The delay frustrated many fans and commentators of the sport but not Usyk who said he “loves” Fury even more and that he has no
