How did Kristie Mews and Sam Kerr meet?
Chelsea women’s star Sam Kerr and Kristie Mewis first met in 2019 whilst they were both playing in the NWSL.
The pair later spoke online for four months during the Covid lockdown in 2020, before spending two weeks together in quarantine.
However, it wasn’t until 2021 that their relationship finally became public – after the USA beat Australia in the semi-finals of the Olympics.
An on-pitch embrace between the duo was caught on camera and made headlines as Kerr’s split from Nikki Stanton had not yet been made public.
The pair are now engaged and are set to be married.
In March 2024, it was reported that Sam Kerr faces a trial after pleading not guilty to allegations of racially abusing a police officer.
The female player has been charged with racially aggravated harassment and is due in court next year.
Kerr’s alleged racial insult came after cops were called to a dispute over a taxi fare.
The Australian Women’s captain is said to have been sick in the cab after a night out and then is alleged to have unleashed a racist verbal volley when police arrived to deal with the dispute in Twickenham, South West London, in January 2023.
She has been charged with intentionally causing racially aggravated harassment, alarm or distress to the male PC under section 31(1)(b) of the Crime and Disorder Act 1998.
If convicted, Kerr faces a maximum sentence of two years’ imprisonment.

In a joint interview with Gaffer magazine in January 2023, the couple discussed playing against each other on the football pitch.
Kerr said: “What I worry about most out of anything is that our coaches or teammates don’t think that we can separate the two.

Who does Kristie Mews play for?
In December 2023, Mewis made a move to West Ham.
At the time of the announcement, she told West Ham TV: ‘’I am delighted to be joining West Ham United.
‘’I have always wanted to play in the Women’s Super League and now that everything has fallen into place, it feels like a dream come true.
“When I visited London for the first time, I went to my first football match at Upton Park. The culture and energy of West Ham captivated me straight away and nothing has ever lived up to that moment – it was one of the happiest days of my life.
“It feels like I have come a full circle from that moment and it’s incredible to now be officially part of the West Ham family. I will work hard, try to lead by example and give everything for this badge.”
