But after winning two amateur events, he finished with the most points during the WPBSA Q Tour at the end of the 2023, regaining a two-year tour card as a result.

After beating Luca Brecel in the last eight of the of the 2024 Welsh Open, Martin told Eurosport: “I have been open before, when I dropped off the tour it kind of felt like the world is just going to end.

“Actually I thought I needed the 12 months away — it is a mentally draining game.

“I promised myself if I got back on I would try and play where it was not a pint of blood every time. Life goes on.

“I have got two lovely kids and fiancee at home and they will still love you if you miss 15 blacks off the spot, it does not matter.

“It’s just about having a bit of perspective.”

“Delighted to make my first final. Thank you to everyone who has messaged me, means a lot!

“Fair play to @sless147 who pushed me hard all the way, good things ahead for you too [thumbs-up emoji]”

His nickname is ‘the Minister of Defence’, which is both an abbreviation of his name, and a joke about his playing style and speed.

Martin O’Donnell’s net worth has not been widely reported.

The only outlet with an estimate of his fortune is CelebsAgeWiki, which believes it to be in the region of $1-5million (£792,000-3.97million).
