Woods‘ injury stems from a serious car crash he was involved in back in 2021.

The 15-time major winner returned to St Andrews to compete in the 150th edition of the Open last year.

Woods missed the cut in 2022, finishing 9-over par through 36 holes.

Why isn’t Tiger Woods playing at the Open 2023?

Tiger Woods will miss the 151st edition of the Open as he continues to recover from a plantar fasciitis injury.

An R&R spokesman said: “We have been advised that he won’t be playing at Hoylake. We wish Tiger all the best with his recovery.”

Woods won the 2006 Open, which was hosted at Hoylake and claimed it was his ‘most gratifying’ win on British soil.

Woods said to the Association of Golf Writers: “I just want to say that all my years of playing the Open Championship, starting at St Andrews in 1995, have been some of the greatest moments, and greatest memories, I have had not just in my golfing career, but in my whole life.

“I’ll roll through some of them, starting with my win at St Andrews in 200, and winning again at the home of golf in 2005, and onto where everyone is playing this week, at Hoylake.

“That week in 2006 was a very emotional one. It was the first championship I ever won without my dad being there.

“It was a tough, tough week, but also probably the most gratifying that I have ever experienced over there.”
