NORMAN WHITESIDE’S wife Dee sparked fury among Manchester United fans after revealing he has been forced to move seats.
Old Trafford legend Whiteside had long been settled close to the directors’ box in the main Sir Bobby Charlton stand.
The ex-winger won the FA Cup twice during his playing days at Old Trafford[/caption]Now he is being relocated to a different area in the stadium, and outraged missus Dee took to social media on Friday evening over the switch.
Writing on X as ‘Mrs W Official’ she said: “So, it doesn’t matter how long you’ve been a loyal supporter, doesn’t matter if you played for your club,
“@ManUtd can just dump you from your seat when they feel like it, so they can expand exec seating! Absolute disgrace!”
United fans responded angrily, one posting : “Poor way to treat a club legend. Doubt they will announce that on their PR channels.”
The displacement of Whiteside, who made 278 appearances for United through the eighties, and won the FA Cup twice, is part of plan by the club to centralise hospitality seats into one area.
Whiteside, while not an ambassador for the club, will continue to help host supporters at pre–match hospitality functions in the ground.
United are at pains to defuse the situation.
A spokesman said: “We have the greatest respect for Norman as a legend of the club, and understand the disappointment caused to him and other season ticket-holders by seat relocations.

“There are various reasons why this happens, including, next season, the moving of match day hospitality seats into consolidated blocks to address fan concerns about them being dispersed around the stadium.
“Other changes next season include the removal of hospitality seating from the Stretford End and installation of further rail seating in the North-West Quadrant, bringing benefits to many fans but also causing some disruption.
“No additional hospitality seats are being created at the expense of season ticket-holders — in fact hospitality seating will reduce by more than 500 next season.
“We are committed to working with all season ticket-holders affected by relocations, including Norman, to find them the best possible alternative seats elsewhere in the ground.”
