CHAMPION jockey Will Buick banged in a Notable treble at Kempton Park.
And he may just have found himself a potential 2000 Guineas dark horse in the shape of the impressive Notable Speech.
Notable Speech wowed under William Buick at Kempton[/caption]Buick, who spent much of the winter in Dubai, is starting to gear up as the start of the Flat season proper looms at Newmarket a week on Tuesday.
He had to be at his strongest to get Adelaise home in the Listed Snowdrop Fillies’ Stakes for Joseph O’Brien, while Devoted Queen had a little bit up her sleeve when winning by a neck later on the card.
But he saved the best ‘til last when producing Notable Speech, who is now a perfect 3-3, with a stunning late burst to win a hot conditions race snugly by two lengths.
Charlie Appleby’s colt was still last approaching the final furlong but mowed down the previously unbeaten Valvano inside the final 100 yards to win going away.
He was a general 66-1 shot for the Guineas on May 4 before the race but was slashed across the board into a top-price 20-1.
Buick grinned: “He is a very smart horse, he had them covered in a stride.
“It’s been so wet everywhere and we were reluctant to run him on testing ground.
“He’s done all his winning on the all-weather but he will be fine on turf, so long as it’s a decent surface because he is a good mover.
“I think he has opened up a few options for himself here, he is very speedy and very talented. He’s a nice speedy miler to look forward to.”
Appleby’s leading Guineas hope until now was Ancient Wisdom, who bagged the Group 1 Futurity on heavy ground at Doncaster at the end of last season.
Buick added: “They are different types. Ancient Wisdom handles cut and will get further than a mile, while this lad is much speedier. I’ll leave any plans up to Charlie.”
