The row stemmed from an incident two out when Danny, who was riding Il Etait Temps, looked to go down the inside of Gaelic Warrior.

Patrick explained he had told his cousin a gap would appear approaching the fence – but that he should not attempt to exploit it under any circumstances.

The amateur jockey said: “I was trying to get a breather into my horse.

“I told Danny there will be a gap down my inner coming to the second last – do not come for it.

“He hasn’t listened to me and luckily he hasn’t got the two of us beaten. It didn’t matter.”

But cameras captured a livid Patrick waving his finger in Danny’s face as they pulled their horses up after the post.

Willie was asked about the incident after his horse Galopin Des Champs hammered rivals to win the Savills Chase at Leopardstown.

The Closutton boss said: “My son and my nephew tried to kill one another going over the second last fence.

“I don’t know what Patrick said to Danny but I’d imagine they wouldn’t be coming home in the same car anyhow!”

Punters were stunned by the scenes – although some saw the funny side.

One said: “Great to see a bit of family love on the racecourse.”

While another wrote: “Unprofessional by Patrick. Any words needed should be said off track. He had room even if Danny was a little careless.”
