He was awarded after being inducted into the Australian Tennis Hall of Fame.

The statue shows Hewitt’s head and shoulders along with his iconic hair and backwards cap.

However, fans are not convinced by the resemblance, or lack of, to the tennis icon.

One fan commented: “Why’ve they made Lleyton a 17th century pirate? This looks nothing like him. Congrats, I guess?”

Another added: “What a shame the bust looks nothing like him.”

A third also fumed: “It doesn’t look anything like him.”

Meanwhile, one more compared the statue to fellow ex-player David Nalbandian, writing: “Congratulations Lleyton but that looks like Nalbandian.”

Another fan shared a snap of the infamous Cristiano Ronaldo statue at Madeira International Airport.

Hewitt retired from singles in 2016 before ending his doubles career four years later.

He was previously inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 2021.

His 2002 Wimbledon triumph was one of two Grand Slam victories, alongside the 2001 US Open.

The Aussie tennis icon’s best performance in his home Slam saw him reach the final in 2005.

However, the former world number one was beaten by Russia’s Marat Safin.
