Wolves 1 Burnley 0: Hwang Hee-Chan winner sends Vincent Kompany crashing back down to earth after Sheffield United win

HWANG HEE-CHAN loves Molineux so much he just can’t stop scoring there!

Wolves‘ South Korean striker earned his side three crucial points with his SIXTH goal in just seven Premier League appearances on home soil this season.

Only Mo Salah (eight) has scored more home goals in the Prem this term, as Hwang drew level with Erling Haaland with half a dozen goals in front of his own fans.

Spurs are the only team who have managed to stop Hwang scoring at Molineux this season – talk about Home Sweet Home!

Gary O’Neil’s men have now scored in each of their last 14 home Premier League games but crucially this was the first time they’ve managed to keep a clean sheet here in eight attempts.

They are now eight points better off under O’Neil than they were at this stage last season.

The last time Burnley visited Molineux in December 2021 the game ended goalless and both teams only managed three shots on target between them!

Surely, fresh from their 5-0 thrashing of Sheffield United, Vincent Kompany‘s Burnley could be relied on to toe-to-toe against Wolves this time out?

But sadly, this pair carried on where they had left off two years ago and made us wait more than half an hour for the first shot on target.

Even then Zeki Amdouni’s low effort from 25 yards lacked power and was easily gathered by Dan Bentley.

However, it was a start and things began to get interesting from that humble beginning.

Six minutes later the game really sparked into life as Wolves sub goalkeeper Bentley stepped up to the mark.

Amdouni dispossessed Joao Gomes near the touchline and Johann Gudmundsson set up Jay Rodriguez whose shot was blocked by Bentley.

Josh Brownhill pounced on the rebound, drilling in a low sizzler which deflected off Lemina and was hurtling towards the far corner.

But Wolves’ stand-in stopper got down brilliantly to fingertip the ball to safety.

That turned out to be a crucial double-save because Wolves finally got their act together to seize the lead three minutes before the break.

It was the type of goal Burnley will always be susceptible to while Kompany is in charge as they tried to play the ball out from the back – but sadly came up short.

Dara O’Shea took the ball from James Trafford and tried to pick out Sander Berge whose heavy touch under pressure from Lemina saw him gift possession to Pablo Sarabia.

He played in Matheus Cunha who found Hwang and the in-form striker calmly sat O’Shea down before placing the ball beyond Trafford and into the far corner.

That goal continued the South Korean’s incredible home scoring record and left Burnley needing to battle back from behind for the first time this season.

Jacob Bruun Larsen fired a free kick wastefully over on the hour and Vitinho had a long range shot which was always rising too high.

But the loss of winger Luca Koleosho to injury before half-time hampered the Clarets and ensured Burnley’s bubble burst after Saturday’s heroics.
