What is YNW Melly's Net Worth?

YNW Melly is an American rapper who has a net worth of $500,000. YNW Melly rose to fame in 2018 with his single "Murder on My Mind," from his debut mixtape, "I Am You." He went on to release the mixtape "We All Shine" and the studio albums "Melly vs. Melvin" and "Just a Matter of Slime," all of which achieved commercial success. In early 2019, YNW Melly was arrested and charged with two counts of premeditated first-degree murder in connection to the double-homicide of two fellow rappers in late 2018; he was incarcerated at Broward County Jail in Fort Lauderdale, Florida as he awaited his trial.

Early Life

YNW Melly, whose real name is Jamell Demons, was born on May 1, 1999 in Gifford, Florida to single mother Jamie Demons-King. He has a younger brother named Brandon who went on to become the rapper YNW BSlime.

At a young age, Demons joined the Bloods gang, and in 2015 he was arrested for shooting at three students near Vero Beach High School. He was subsequently convicted on multiple counts and served a year in juvenile detention.

Recording Career

In 2016, Demons adopted the rap name YNW Melly as part of the hip hop collective YNW. While incarcerated in late 2017 for violating probation, he released his debut EP, "Collect Call." He went on to release a number of singles in 2018, including "Melly the Menace," "Slang That Iron," and "Murder on My Mind," the lattermost of which propelled YNW Melly to fame. Exploring homicidal ideation, "Murder on My Mind" reached number 14 on the Billboard Hot 100 and appeared on YNW Melly's debut mixtape, "I Am You." While incarcerated again in early 2019, YNW Melly released his second mixtape, "We All Shine," which debuted at number 27 on the Billboard 200. Toward the end of the year, he released his debut studio album, "Melly vs. Melvin." Featuring the single "223's," the album peaked at number eight on the Billboard 200. A second single, a remix of the track "Suicidal" featuring the late rapper Juice Wrld, came out in 2020. It became YNW Melly's second-highest-charting song, after "Murder on My Mind."

In 2021, after a year of not releasing any music due to his pending double-murder case, YNW Melly collaborated with fellow Florida rapper Kodak Black on the song "Thugged Out." He subsequently released such singles as "Pieces," featuring Queen Naija, and "Bestfriend 4L," featuring Lil Tjay. These and other singles were featured on YNW Melly's second studio album, "Just a Matter of Slime," which came out in August of 2021. The album debuted at number 11 on the Billboard 200.

Criminal Charges and Imprisonment

In 2017, in the wake of his conviction and imprisonment for shooting at three people near Vero Beach High School, YNW Melly was arrested for violating his probation. He subsequently served several months in jail before being released in early 2018. That summer, YNW Melly was arrested again, this time for possession of marijuana, possession of weapon or ammunition by a convicted felon, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was arrested yet again, for possession of marijuana, in early 2019.

In February of 2019, YNW Melly was charged with two counts of premeditated murder in relation to the October 2018 shooting deaths of two associates, rappers YNW Sakchaser and YNW Juvy.

Allegedly, he had conspired with fellow rapper YNW Bortlen to stage the double-murder of the pair and make it look as though the deceased had been killed in a drive-by shooting. After multiple delays, YNW Melly's trial commenced in mid-2023. The next month, a mistrial was declared due to a hung jury. In early 2024, the trial was put on hold indefinitely awaiting adjudication of the inclusion of digital evidence in the case.
