THE SUNBayern Munich vs Arsenal preview
Arsenal travel to Munich with a rather sizeable task on their hands.
Following their 2-2 draw in the first leg, Mikel Arteta’s side will need to beat their Bundesliga opponents or win on penalties to progress to the semi-finals of the Champions League.
Given Arsenal’s exceptional Premier League campaign and Bayern’s dismal failed title challenge — that doesn’t sound too difficult.
But though their respective seasons have been wildly different in terms of both form and results, the stats are still heavily in favour of Thomas Tuchel’s side.
And that’s because the Gunners have lost all of their last four two-legged ties against Bayern Munich.
Bayern have also only failed to progress from ONE of their previous 18 two-legged ties when avoiding defeat in the first leg — and that was against Liverpool in 2018-19.
Arsenal arrive having suffered a devastating 2-0 defeat to Aston Villa, which has handed Manchester City a two-point advantage at the top of the division.
Bayern, meanwhile, watched Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen lift the Bundesliga title for the first time over the weekend.

Bayern win
Bayern may have endured a fairly disastrous season, but they’re still Bayern and still have several players capable of individual brilliance and match-winning performances – especially on home turf.
The German heavyweights will relish the opportunity to salvage their season with Champions League silverware, and haven’t failed to score at least 2+ goals in any of their last six games against Arsenal.
Mikel Arteta’s side could be very flat following their loss to Aston Villa, which many believe has handed Manchester City the title. Bayern have also have advanced from 17 of their last 18 Champions League knockout ties when avoiding defeat in the first leg, as well as going unbeaten in their last 14 home matches in Europe’s top competition.

Harry Kane could really rub salt in the wound of his former North London rivals this week. The England international, 30, has enjoyed a phenomenal campaign, scoring 39 goals in 39 appearances with seven of those arriving in the Champions League.

Given what I’ve explained above, it stands to reason that Bayern Munich are capable of scoring 3+ goals on their own patch – something they’ve done on 11 occasions already this season.
Arsenal have been fantastic defensively, but conceding first could see Mikel Arteta’s relatively youthful side throw caution out of the window in search of a leveller. Bayern’s Serge Gnabry, Leroy Sane and Kane himself could therefore profit.
