How to predict a team like Chelsea?
On the surface it looks as though Mauricio Pochettino’s side are enjoying a purple patch.
They’ve gone seven matches unbeaten since their Carabao Cup loss to Liverpool, they have a shot at European football and just recorded an enthralling 4-3 victory over Manchester United.
But that’s not the full story.
That great victory over United was sandwiched between two lacklustre 2-2 draws with relegation favourites Burnley and Sheffield United — the former against 10 men.
The Blues are anchored in ninth position on 44 points and six adrift of seventh-placed Manchester United with eight matches of the campaign remaining.
It feels like one step forward and two steps back for Chelsea, who must beat Everton to keep their European qualification hopes alive.
As for the Toffees, they’ll be looking to recover from yet another points deduction which has left them in 16th and two points above the relegation places.
Sean Dyche’s side ended their drought with a slender 1-0 win over Burnley at Goodison Park on Saturday, and will hope to complete a league double over Chelsea (their first since 1978-79) having won 2-0 earlier this season.

In fact, Mauricio Pochettino’s side are unbeaten in their last 28 Premier League home matches against Everton (W15 D13) since losing 1-0 in November 1994. It’s Chelsea’s longest unbeaten home record against a side in their top-flight history.
We fancy that run to be extended tonight with Everton having failed to win on the road in any of their last nine games. However, there should still be goals with Chelsea having scored and conceded at least twice in each of their last seven matches.

The England star, 21, has scored a whopping 21 goals in all competitions this season, with a further 13 assists to boot. No Chelsea player comes close to his 77 efforts on goal this season, and none can match his 35 on target in 27 league appearances.
