Fans feel sick as Premier League club goes against the norm with lineup and is branded a ‘shambles’

FANS declared the “game gone” after witnessing Burnley’s lineup for their game against Brighton this weekend.

That’s after the club lined up without a single member of their starting XI wearing a shirt numbered between one and 11.

The lowest number within the side was worn by number 16 Sander Berge.

It’s a far cry from the Burnley side which was so synonymous with now Everton manager Sean Dyche.

Dyche’s team was infamous for its traditional style and that was reflected in its squad numbering as well.

As Burnley manager, he was the last boss to name a side numbered between one and 11.

That came in 2021 for a game against Liverpool, and before the match he proudly beamed: “Another old-fashioned thing about me. 1 to 11, who would’ve thought it?”

In fact, they were the first side to do that in the Premier League since 1998.

Three years on from Dyche’s feat, the Clarets are nowhere near recreating that trick and fans weren’t happy about it on X.

One wrote about the lineup’s numbers: “Shambles. It’s just a marketing tool for clubs to sell shirts. Let’s get back to the players playing for the shirt!
