Mikel Arteta‘s side slipped to second place after a 2-0 loss to Aston Villa at home on Sunday, now two points behind defending champions Manchester City, who beat Luton 5-1 the day before.

City are now firm favourites to win a fourth consecutive title.

And this will not surprise Mourinho, who confidently ruled the Gunners out of the running in January.

Asked who will win the title on The Obi One podcast, he said: “Man City 51 per cent and Liverpool 49 per cent.”

The Portuguese head coach was asked: “No Arsenal?”

Mourinho responded: “Nah… It is not the rivalry, is it the right moment?

“Honestly, rivalry apart, I would like them to win. Of course, Chelsea and Man United are not going to win it.

“Out of these three, I would be happy for Arsenal to do it. I would be really happy for them to break that thing.

“It is because when the cumulation of matches starts coming, Man City have two teams.”

Like Arsenal, Liverpool’s hopes of winning the title suffered a significant setback on Sunday after a 1-0 loss to Crystal Palace at Anfield.

Jurgen Klopp‘s team is currently in third place, level on points with Arsenal but trailing City by two points.

Liverpool’s chances at European glory appear to be slim as they face a significant loss having been defeated 3-0 by Atalanta in the first leg of the quarter-finals at Anfield last week.

Meanwhile, Arsenal must now focus on the Champions League, as they head to Germany for the second leg of their quarter-final against Bayern Munich on Wednesday.

Following a 2-2 draw in the first leg at home, Arsenal will need to step up their game to secure a place in the next round.
