NEWCASTLE have won praise for their hi-tech shirts as they had fans buzzing against Tottenham.
Sponsor Sela have introduced revolutionary shirts enabling deaf fans to experience the St James’ Park atmosphere.
Supporters with hearing problems were able to wear the “groundbreaking” flashing tops for the first time against Spurs, which also saw ‘RNID’ replace ‘Sela’ on the front to represent the Royal National Institute for Deaf People.
The shirts are haptic – meaning they respond to movement generated electronically or mechanically.
And it did not take long for the lights on the shirt to start flashing as Newcastle raced into a 2-0 lead against Tottenham.
Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon scored two goals in two minutes to send the stadium into raptures.
Defender Dan Burn celebrated by performing sign language for ‘love the fans’ after Isak’s opener.
And they were vibrating again in the second half as Isak grabbed his second before Fabian Schar put the seal on an impressive victory.
Fans are loving the initiative and praised Newcastle for their inclusiveness.
