FORMER boxing champion Willie Limond has sadly passed away.
The boxer had a successful career inside the ring having won 42 out of his 48 fights.

Willie was a 45-year-old Scottish boxer.
Before boxing, he started as a footballer and made five league appearances for Albion Rovers in the 1998-99 season.
It was in 1999 when his boxing career began with a win over journeyman Lenny Hodgkins.

During his 24 years of professional boxing, Willie boasted a record of 42-6.
He held the British super-featherweight, super-lightweight and lightweight titles.
He also held the Commonwealth light-welterweight, WBU lightweight and IBO Inter-Continental lightweight titles.
In 2007, he made a bigger name for himself after he defended his Commonwealth lightweight title against Amir Khan.
Willie was branded as the underdog in the bout but managed to earn the respect of fans in the matchup.
His final was in September 2023 when he lost to Ricky Burns – it was only the sixth loss of his career.

On April 15, 2024, it was announced that Willie had sadly passed away.
The star was left fighting for his life after suffering a suspected seizure in his car a week prior.
He was rushed to University Hospital Monklands in Airdrie where he remained in critical condition.
A source said: “Willie was found in his car on a residential street in Coatbridge early on Saturday morning.
“The police were called and he was taken to hospital. He’s in a really bad way.
“They think he’s taken ill while in his car, thankfully there was no collision with anyone else.”
He had been due to return to the ring next month to face Joe Laws at the Emirates Arena on May 3.
However, his son Jake announced his passing on social media.
He wrote: “Dad passed away in the early hours of the morning.
“He fought on for near enough 10 days. Warrior.
Tributes have flooded in from the popular fighter since his death was announced.
St Andrew’s Sporting Club announced the sad news of Willie’s death on their social media channels.
They said: “Everyone at St Andrew’s Sporting Club are shocked and deeply saddened at the loss of our friend, Willie Limond.
“Willie was not only a legend of the sport, but an infectious character who will be greatly missed by us all.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with Jake, Drew, Macy and the rest of the Limond family at this time.”
